Sam Coursen is currently an independent consultant working as an advisor to various technology companies. Additionally, he is providing mentoring and leadership development of IT executives as part of the CIO Executive Council “Pathways” program.

Previously, Sam was Vice-President and Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Freescale Semiconductor from August 2005 through his retirement in April 2011. He was responsible for IT supporting all Freescale operations, leading a global IT organization of 350 professionals and outsource partners located in all geographic regions. He was directly responsible for all IT applications, data and voice services, data center services, distributed computing services, and end user services. Among Sam’s achievements were managing the transition to best-in-class cost structure while simultaneously delivering a significantly enhanced application portfolio such as extension of the single instance SAP ERP system, improving manufacturing gross margins via advanced process control, advanced manufacturing data warehousing and analytics, enhanced equipment monitoring & maintenance, and increased factory automation, implementation of a comprehensive Enterprise Data Warehouse strategy, leading the IT governance process to drive strategic alignment between IT and business strategy, and a continuous drive for efficiency and effectiveness via metrics / balance scorecard, benchmarking, process standardization, consolidation / centralization, and outsourcing.

Prior to Freescale, Sam was vice president and CIO of NCR Corporation, a global technology solutions provider. Sam joined NCR in 1993 and held various senior management positions within the company. In 1995, he was appointed Vice President of Services, responsible for development and global deployment of external NCR service offerings (professional services and customer support services). In 1997, he was appointed Vice President of Global Applications, responsible for development, global deployment, and support of the IT applications supporting NCR’s internal business operations. In 1998, he was appointed VP & CIO of the company.

Prior to joining NCR, Sam held various technical and management positions at AT&T. He joined AT&T in 1973 in Atlanta, Georgia as a co-op student engineer from Auburn University. In 1974, Sam was appointed to a technical position at Bell Laboratories in Naperville, Illinois developing electronic telephone switching systems. In 1979, he was appointed district manager in Bedminster, NJ responsible for development of operations support systems supporting AT&T’s global communications network. In 1985, he was appointed district manager responsible for the UNIX Standard Operating Environment (SOE) within AT&T. In 1987, he was appointed division manager responsible for all of AT&T’s internal data center and network computing services.

Sam holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Auburn University. He is married with four children and currently resides in Austin, Texas.

Adam has a diverse background that spans multiple industries. He spent over a decade with one of the world’s largest biotech companies as both a technologist and a leader of a global team.
Most recently he spent two and a half years as Chief Operating Officer for one of the top mobile software development studios in the world. While there he led this game changing software development company to new heights and helped shape the digital presence of many of the world’s leading brands.
Currently Adam is CEO of Thoughtleadr Inc., a company that provides a software and analytics platform for a form of digital advertising termed native advertising. As a dedicated lifetime learner, throughout his career Adam has enjoyed growing his own knowledge base but also teaching, mentoring, and coaching. Adam holds a BS in Molecular Biology and an MBA from UC Davis.

Michael (Mike) Clifford was Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Whole Foods Market, Inc., from September 2000 through September, 2012. Since then, he took a year-long personal sabbatical, and has been dabbling as an investor/advisor in a few Austin based eCommerce and technology manufacturing companies.He’s currently serving as the Chief Operations Officer for Redbird Flight Simulations, based in Austin and San Marcos, TX. Redbird is changing the way General Aviation pilots are trained and developed using technology that has never been introduced into this industry before. Mike’s not a pilot, yet.Prior to his long career at Whole Foods, Mike was Vice President and Division CIO for Dell, Inc.’s Public and Americas International group, serving in this capacity from 1997 to 2000. At various times, he was responsible for Dell’s Sales, Marketing and Services systems during Dell’s rapid expansion.Before Dell, Mike spent 15 years in progressive management positions at PepsiCo, Taco Bell and Pepsi-Cola North America. Mike managed applications development projects, deployment teams, help desks and provided direct customer support of Pepsi’s Retail customers during that period.Mike is a graduate of Columbia University, and a hopelessly optimistic fan of the New York Jets. Some think this taints his accomplishments. He’s been a member of several social service Boards in Austin, and enjoys paying what he has learned forward by mentoring students and upcoming leaders.

Vijay is the former CIO/CTO and Director of Innovation for the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts (CPA). As a strategic member of the executive management team, he led the statewide ERP modernization initiative, government transparency programs and security and privacy modernization efforts. He had strategy and operational responsibility for the Innovation and Technology division for the state agency that supports the financial systems for the State of Texas including tax, accounting, payroll, treasury, and procurement for the $100B+ State government. Prior to the CPA, Vijay was the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for LCRA (Lower Colorado River Authority), where he was the executive responsible for multiple divisions including IT and Telecommunications. At LCRA he leveraged his experience in IT and OT to bring organizational alignment and bridge IT, Telecommunications and OT organizations together. Prior to LCRA, he ran two start-up software development and technology consulting firms that focused on the manufacturing and utility sectors. He started his career as an electrical and controls engineer with Alcoa leveraging information and operational technology in manufacturing and utility.
He holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University, an MS in Software Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and an MBA from St. Edwards University. He is also a Registered Professional Engineering in Texas (inactive).
He serves on a variety of regional, industry, education and technology advisory boards and groups.

Steve Finnerty is currently president of Finnerty Consulting which is focused on helping people and teams achieve their potential. The emphasis of his practice is individual and team leadership development, coaching, strategy development, change management and influence without authority. Finnerty has been involved in the information systems profession for over 40 years and has held positions as the Senior Vice President for Information Systems and Supply Chain Management at premier global companies including Applied Materials, Dell, Kraft Foods and Johnson Controls.
