Karen Schartman

As the CFO for Kaiser Permanente’s Northwest Region, Karen Schartman leads the financial operations of an integrated health care organization encompassing medical and dental insurance plans, medical and dental offices, and a network of owned and contracted hospitals.  Kaiser Permanente provides care to 486,000 members in Oregon and Southwest Washington.  The region also operates a comprehensive Dental Care program to over 205,000 members.  With facilities stretching from Longview, Washington to Salem, Oregon, the company employs nearly 10,000 people and has annual revenues of $3.1 billion.  In her current role, Karen has responsibility for accounting and financial reporting, revenue cycle, financial planning and analysis, information management, contracting, procurement and supply chain.

Karen’s experience at Kaiser Permanente spans over 25 years.  Prior to her role in the Northwest, she most recently served as the Vice President of Financial Planning for the organization, based on Oakland, CA.  In this role, she led the financial planning and forecast processes for the $45 billion organization.  Prior to this, she served as Executive Director for Kaiser’s Mid-Atlantic Region, based in Rockville, Maryland.  In this role, she led the financial and strategic planning processes for the region.

Karen’s educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a Master’s degree in Finance, both from the University of Maryland.  She serves on the Board of Directors for Janus Youth Programs and Oregon Food Bank.
